SHRUNKEN HEADS

An interesting piece for an advanced collector, from the first series of shrunken heads made by Maquiamelo.

An irony, since it involves the defeat of the hairy foreigner who stepped in, without luck, a town inhabited by people with hairless faces. The Spanish facial features combine the surprise and terror of the one who understands, in the last moment that he has fought and lost his last battle.

* The Extreme Art of Maquiamelo by Alvaro Medina

UNPLUGGED

In stones of unconventional aspects, Maquiamelo has carved the heads of eight popular musicians of artistic trajectories recognized in the international arena. He used rough pieces of precious and semi-precious stones, which he acquired depending on the character to be portrayed. He assigned to each musician portrayed an attribute conceived according to the pains, complications and contradictions suffered as they passed through life. He was attracted by the contrast between the glittering peaks that celebrities climb stimulated by the applause of the public and the abysses that they travel in private.

The artist embraced the other great lesson learned during his stay with the Shuar, which states that certain stones, for their shapes and colors, are sacred.

UNICORNS

Magic Unicorn is born in Muzo, Boyacá, from a matrix formed by shale, dolomite and emeralds, with two intense green combs standing out, and completed by the six-centimeter golden horn of 18 karat gold. The unicorn is still, with the name as an armor, giving the feeling that in the middle of his stop, he moves out of the present time, coming and going between worlds to deliver its strength.

A symbol of strength and power to go against the evils of the dark word. It gives protection and care for those who own it.

Mystical Unicorn is an artwork that emerges from a quarts and pyrite emerald matrix at Chivor’s mines, in Boyacá, Colombia, and then went through a refined sculptural process that highlights its green and white colors, as well the lateral folds of the mane. The unicorn posture is a movement denoting calm, and which ends up with the golden horn of seven centimeters of 18 karat gold, as an offering, a joyful premonition of purity and freedom.
